Participants will engage in learning more about healthy eating habits and
physical activity as outlined in the curriculum guidelines (curriculum
courtesy of the U of A Cooperative Extension Service).
Topics Include:
Calculating calories
Exercise: walking, strength training and other options
Food Gude Pyramid
Goal setting
Shopping strategies/label reading
Food prep/recipe modifications
Eating out
Time management
Eating on the run -- quick snacks
Carbs Count!
Rating weight loss
Guest speakers through out the program
Participants will analyze their current eating and physical activity habits.
Participants will decide what changes they can make to start living healthier.
One day at a time.
Participants will set personal goals for living healthier.
Participants will receive support and motivation from other participants,
instructor and guest speakers as a transition to healthier ways of living.
Guest speakers will attend class periodically to address specific needs
and highlight positive healthy living lifestyle changes.
Each participant will keep a journal's dialog of food and exercise records.
Each participant will have the opportunity to participate in a motivational
walking program 'Walk Across Arkansas'.
Everyone will have the opportunity to talk about what they are experiencing
, and ask questions at each session.
